Under the hood, it uses OpenAI's Whisper large-v3-turbo model for fast transcription that handles natural financial language without turning account names and merchants into nonsense.
How Voice Input Works
The microphone button sits in the chat composer beside the send action. Tap it once and recording begins. Clarity captures audio directly in the browser with the Web Audio API, so there is no plugin, desktop client, or separate recorder involved.
When you stop recording, the clip is sent for transcription, converted into text, and placed back into the input field. You can review the transcript, edit anything Whisper misheard, and send it like any other message. For short voice prompts, the full round trip is usually fast enough to feel conversational rather than batchy.
What Voice Queries Are Good At
Voice works best when the question is obvious to you but annoying to type. The useful cases are simple:
- “How much did I spend on groceries last month?”
- “What were my biggest charges this week?”
- “Do I still have subscriptions I forgot about?”
- “How is my portfolio doing this year?”
That becomes more useful with follow-up questions. After Clarity shows a spending breakdown, you can ask for the merchant detail, the largest charge, or the month-over-month change without re-framing the whole request.
Why It Matters
Most people do not avoid financial check-ins because they hate answers. They avoid them because the path from curiosity to answer has too many small steps. Voice removes one more bit of friction. If the question occurs while you're walking, cooking, or commuting, you can just ask it instead of promising yourself you'll check later.
That matters even more for users who already prefer speech interfaces or who find typing uncomfortable. Voice input does not replace the normal chat flow. It adds another input path that meets the user where they are.
Privacy and Audio Handling
Audio handling is the part that needs to be clear. The recording stays on-device until you finish speaking and explicitly send it for transcription. After that, it is processed to produce text, and the text becomes the chat message. The message is stored the same way a typed prompt would be stored. The goal is convenience, not a permanent audio archive.
Microphone access still depends on explicit browser permission. If you deny access, the rest of the chat continues to work normally with typing. Voice is additive, not required.
