Set up automatic transfers on payday so you save before you spend.

  5. 5

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I save for all goals at once or one at a time?

A mix works best. Always keep your emergency fund contributions going. Then put 70-80% of your extra savings toward your top priority and 20-30% toward the others. That keeps you focused without totally ignoring your other goals.

What if I cannot afford the required monthly amount?

Push back your target date or lower the goal amount. You can also find extra money: sell things you do not need, cut a subscription, or do some temporary side work. Even saving less than the ideal amount is still progress.

Should I invest my savings or keep them in cash?

For goals under 3 years away, stick with a high-yield savings account — no market risk. For 3-5 years out, a conservative mix of bonds and CDs can work. Only put money in stocks if the goal is more than 5 years away.
